National Chamber Orchestra
of Armenia

In 1997 the orchestra was united with Yerevan Chamber Orchestra, founded in 1979 and led by conductor Zaven Vardanyan. Hence, the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia (NCOA) was formed. Shortly, after its formation the American-Armenian conductor Aram Gharabekian was appointed as its Artistic Director. Under Gharabekian’s leadership, the NCOA has commissioned and premiered more than 40 new works, while promoting integration of traditional Armenian musical instruments such as duduk, zurna, shvi and kamancha in those pieces.

The NCOA has also managed to record three CD’s featuring the works of the contemporary Armenian composers.  

In 2011 Vahan Mardirossian became the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia. Under his leadership the NCOA has continued the traditions and mission of showcasing the works of the classical and contemporary Armenian composers on the international stage…
